It’s official – Mansfield Primary Academy is graded “Good” by Ofsted

Following an inspection that took place on 29 and 30 April 2014, Ofsted has judged the overall effectiveness of the Mansfield Primary Academy, sponsored by the Greenwood Dale Foundation Trust (GDFT), to be providing a “good” level of education for its pupils.

Inspectors scrutinised records and documentation, observed lessons and met with pupils, staff and parents to get their views.

The inspection is an independent assessment of the effectiveness of the Academy which includes:

* the achievement of pupils;

* the quality of teaching;

* the behaviour and safety of pupils; and

* the quality of leadership and management.

The Academy was judged to be ‘good’ across all of these four areas which is an outstanding achievement given that an Ofsted monitoring visit in February 2012 found the predecessor school, Newgate Lane Primary, to be making inadequate progress. The school joined the (GDFT) in September 2012, was renamed the Mansfield Primary Academy, and has since made rapid progress.

Inspectors found that “the Academy aided by the Trust, has moved forward quickly, resulting in pupils making good progress” throughout the school. Inspectors highlighted that “the proportion of pupils who made better than expected progress by the end of Year 6 matched national averages in 2013” and that “inspection evidence suggests that current pupils are progressing at faster rates” which is extremely encouraging for the future. Ofsted also noted that pupils “respond well to the high aspirations the Academy has for them and are polite and respectful to other pupils and visitors. Pupils feel safe and secure in this caring and supportive academy.”

The leadership of the Academy by the Principal, Mr Paul Brockless, was also highlighted in the report as being a key reason for the impressive turnaround. Inspectors noted that “the Academy’s leadership at all levels is bringing about rapid improvement in teaching and achievement” and that “the Principal and Deputy Principal have provided a clear structure to enable the Academy to improve and keep improving”.
