Long Term Plans

Using the Development Matters we have created a new document to outline the key objectives for each term. These statements allow clear progression throughout the year to enable children to achieve the Early Learning Goal at the end of the Reception year.

Throughout the year we have a range of different topics to focus on

Autumn 1- This is Me

During this term it is an opportunity for the staff and children to get to know each other. We will focus our work around the lives of your children looking at their likes and dislikes, hobbies, family members and pets.

Autumn 2- Animal Kingdom

Throughout this term we will look at the lives of different animals around the world and how they survive. We will focus our work around animals from the following stories and create habitats for the different animals

  • Dear Zoo
  • Rumble in the Jungle
  • The Gruffalo
  • What the Ladybird Heard
  • What the Ladybird Heard Next

Spring- We Need a Hero

During this topic we focus on the lives and jobs of heroes including: Police, Firefighters, Nurses, Military, Vets etc. Alongside looking at our own heroes within our families, friends and communities and how they help us. We will look at our future dreams and how these can be achieved. During this topic we will also look at fictional characters and their roles as a hero e.g. Supertato.

Summer- Tales

In the summer term we will look at a range of different tales including: traditional tales, fairy tales and twisted tales. The children will recreate their own stories using props and small world resources to help encourage and develop their comprehension skills.

During each term we celebrate different events from around the world to encourage an understanding of different cultures including; Christmas, Diwali, Chinese New Year, Lent, Easter and many more.

Within each topic the development matters statements will be focused upon.
