10 in 10

Every morning between 08:45 and 09:15, each class focuses on arithmetic and number fluency. Children work through 10 questions all focused on their understanding of the four operations. Questions are created by classroom teachers based on summative and formative assessment. We have also reviewed the White Rose Maths long term plans to introduce each unit to have a retrieval focus from a previously taught unit of work. (these are identified on our long term plans).  As a school, we use PiXL to assess our children on a termly basis. From this, a gap analysis is conducted that generates target areas for our children to work on in their number fluency time. This approach enables our arithmetic scores to develop, this is a result of our children receiving concise, targeted teaching that addresses misconceptions, areas for development and promotes a fluent understanding of mathematics.
